SHOPLIFTING COMEDY.
Now York. May 21.—The elements of comedy and tragedy were curiously mixed in the exposure to-day in the B rojix borough ol : a clever shoplilting scheme. The thieves were three girls, aged respectively fourteen and thirteen years and seven months. The youngest of the trio was borrowed with a baby carriage lor the occasion from a neighbor. She was trundled up and down in front of a shop by one of the older girls. The other one, as she collected articles from the counters, came out to the perambulator and tucked them away under the baby's feet. The game had been in operation about a week. But yesterday the baby, whose presence contributed so greatly to the scheme’s success unconsciously brought’ exposure. Finding the piie beneath her feet growing uncomfortably large, she began throwing the articles on the pavement. This attaeted a policeman’s attention, and arrest followed.
