UNAUTHORISED EXPENDITURE.
Special to Times. WELLINGTON, last night, Tlio following are amongst llie items of unauthorised expenditure for last year:—Bonus to H. JdWynne for invention of automatic tablet exchanger adopted by Railway Department, £200; compassionate allowance to widow of late 0. E. Briggs, clerk audit office. £250; donation Jamaica Relief Fund, £IOOO ; expenses connected with funeral late Colonel Pitt, £9(1; plaster of Paris bust of late Mr. Soddon, £163; L. F. Martin, solicitor for preparing Local. Government Bill Grant to South Island Rifle Association meeting. £250; expenses Lands Department exhibit at Exhibition, £l4l ; rents of West Coast settlement and Native reserves embezzled by H. R. H. Oswin at New Plymouth, £1,699; Police Provident Fund on 31st March last, there were three exinspectors, 21 ox-sergeants, 37 exconstables, 3 ox-detectives. 2 widows and 2 children on this fund, their aggregate allowance being £6,270 ; on 31st March there was a balance to credit, of the fund of £29,126 ; an increase for the year of £2,004.
