DEMANDS BY MEMBERS.
(Special t-o Times.) WELLINGTON, last nighP A good deal of the time of Parliament was wasted to-day by a number ji members who made protests against ihe answers given to their questions by the Government. -Many of the questions asked nowadays are scarcely worthy of a iluuu Guard let alone e'olonial poLLics. xhe questions put are often ting: euunatieul and unnecessarily verba- , am.; A imist be admitted that n . . a. Uie answers of .Ministers are verbose. It is. however, genei'all.v recognised that the question paper is largely used as a vote-catching appliance by some members oil both sides of the House, and it is certain that if the Government were to comply with all the requests of the bon. members the colony would in a few years be some way on the road to bankruptcy. The Premier, who joined in the question discussion this afternoon, made it- plain that' the Government could not he expected to .do ihore than was reasonable. -Members., however, seemed to be in favor of increasing everything in the way of expenditure and of reducing charges and getting concessions made. The Government had, however, to consider the country as a. whole, and they’ would consider these applications in that way. (Hear, hear.)
