Finding Raisuli’s demands preposterous, the first negotiations failed, Kaid Mac-Lean returned to h ez. itaisuli wrote expressing regret anOmtimating he was prepared to accept tlio Sultan’s terms. At a second interview at Alcazar Sr H.. MacLeau noglected to enlist the assistance of two tribes which previously guaranteed secrecy of negotiations. Almost alone Sir H. Mat-Lean proceeded to tlie spot appointed bv Raisuli. Ti was surrounded by a large band. MacLean was powerless to refuse an lnvitation to proceed further to tne mountains.
Received July 8, 10.59 p.ni. MOROCCO, July 8. The authorities are ariking Zelaed, Chief of the BenitSowar tribe, and formerly Raisuli’s lieutenant, to use his moral influence or force to release Kaid Mac Leon. .
