FARMERS’ POLITICS.
FARMERS’ UNION STAND. NEWSPAPER COMMENT. (Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, last night. The N.Z. Times devotes a column leader to the Poverty Bay Farmers’ Union resolution at the Conference that tho Union should take a stronger united political attitude. It generally agrees with Mr. W. L. Clayton’s conclusion that the Union lias all the discredit and enjoys none of the advantages of being a political organisation. The paper compliments Mr. Clayton on tho neatness and clearness of his statement of the case, but of courso considers the farmers true interest is to support the present Ministry. It assumes that Mr. Clayton supports'the aggregation of large estates, and is against the limitation of areas, although he explicitly stated at an earlier stage of the Conference his opinion to the contrary. It assumes that the big men .at present guide the destinies of the Union. Tho Evening Post also lias a leader on the same subject.
