HOCKEY.
At the last meeting ol the N./. Hockey Association several letters were received in connection with the pronosod intorproviiicial shield, which which it was suggested should bo purchased by contributions from the affiliated bodies. Some of them containod offers of contributions, but several regretted the Centres’ inability to contribute. Two letters, enclosed cheques amounting to £2 10s. it was clear, the chairman said, that tlie Association must provide^a shield itself. It could not accept contributions from some Centres while others gave nothing. It was decided that the Association should provide a shield at a cost of £23, and refund tlie subscriptions already forwarded. Messrs. Manson, Garrard, and Burley were appointed a sub-committee to draw up conditions for the competitions .for the shield. The questions of designs for tlie shield, and the calling of tenders were referred to tho same committee. The Manawatu Association received information to this effect at its meeting last night, and it was decided to ask for information as to tlie method of allotting the sliioid. . . . The N.Z. Association also received a letter asking for a ruling as to the adoption of tho “roll forward, as now played by many clubs in contravention'of the official rules, but following the method at Homo. It was decided to write to the Wellington, Auckland, Otago, and Hawke s Bay Associations to sco whence they got their authority, and then, if the change is warranted, to adopt tlio now rule. ____
