Press Association. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. THURSDAY. In tho Council at 2.30 p.m. Mr. Paul moved the Address-in-Replv. Captain Tucker seconded. Tho Council rose at 4 o’clock. FRIDAY. Mr. Scotland resumed tlio debate ou tlio Address-in-Reply, which was continued by Messrs. McCardlo, Callan, and T. Kelly. Tho debate was adjourned on tho motion of Mr. Anstey.

Mr. Feld wick moved a resolution extending sympathy to the Hon. W. Hall-Jones in his illness. Tlio At-torney-General and Messrs. Luke, Thompson, Anstev, Loughnan, and W C. Smith briefly eulogised Mr. Hall-Jones’ services. The motion was carried. Tho Council rose at 4.20.

In tho House tho following Bills wore road a first time :—Coal Minors Act Amendment Bill, Municipal Corporations Act Amondmont. Bill, Nelson Institute Bill, Town Districts Act Amendment Bill, Accountants Bill, Police Offences Act Amendment Bill, Rotorua Town Bill, Public Trust Office Amendment Bill. Mr Wilford resumed the debate on the Address-in-Reply, followed by Messrs Mnlcolm, Whitty, Hogan, and Poole. Tho debate was continued by Messrs. Flatman, Gray, Jennings, Okey, and Ross. Mr. Greenslado moved tlio adjournment of tho debate.

The following Bills were brought down by Governor’s message and read a first time: —Pure Food Bill, Rotorua Town Bill.

The House rose at 11 p.m. FRIDAY. The following Bills were read a first time:—Coal Mines Act Amendment, Police Offences Act Amendment, Tohungas Suppression. Tho Speaker announced tho receipt of a bust of Admiral Nelson in Victory oak and copper, presented to the New Zealand Parliament by the British and Foreign Sailors’ Society, as a memento* of the centenary of Nelson’s death. It was resolved to accept the gift and tender thanks to the donors. The debate on tho Address-in-Re-ply was resumed by Messrs. Greonslade, Hogg, Stallworthy, and Seddon

The Premier announced, owing to Mr. Hall-Jones’ absence, the following redistribution of portfolios: Public Works and Tourist, Mr. McGowan: Railways, Sir Joseph Ward; Defence, Mr. McNab; Printing Office, Mr. Millar.

On resuming at 7.30 p.m. the Premier moved, —“That this House conveys to Mr. Hall-Jones its expression of sympathy at his indisposition, and hopes he will return to the colonv restored in perfect health.” The motion was agreed to. Mr. Seddon resumed the debate on the Address-in-Reply, which was continued by Messrs. Lang, Rutherford, Carroll, McPherson, Reid, Remington, and Thompson. Mr. E. Gallen moved the adjournment, and the House rose at 11.45 p.m.
