The appeal' council of the New Zealand Rugby Union has upheld the appeal of tho Auckland Refereov Association made by them through the New Zealand Referees’ Association; that is to the effect that a player throwing in from touch cannot play the ball himself until it has been played by another player. This decision will be strictly carried out in future.
Drop-kicking is not so fashionable a method of scoring points as it lvas a few years ago/ remarks a Sydney writer.' To encourage it the It up; by Union has made a field goal four points, as against tho three points alloted a goal from a free kick or a mark, but they might have gone still further and reduced the try goal, i. 0., tho goal scored off a try, to the same value as a field one. Some seasons back when Lusk, Abbott, Colquhoun. Moulton and others were playing a drop-kick at goal formed as much part of the game as a passing rush does to-day. Very often the skill of the kicker decided a match, and many are the instances on record when a field goal won a match. The following will represent Vest End in their match against IvaTti-City to-day:—Tate, Forbes. Hepburn, Roderick, Brown, Henderson, Vi Friday, Turner. Pini, Joughin, Heke, Mutu, Hakiwai, Blair, Ellison.
