DEATH OF AN INFANT.

Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, last night. An 18-year-old single girl, who travelled from Dunedin to Lyttelton last night on the s.s. Mokoia, gave birth to a female child duriii" the night. She was attended by two stewardesses and a married woman, who was a passenger. The child died, however, before the vessel reached Lyttelton. At the inquest held at Lyttelton this afternoon evidence was given that the child was horn about 2 a.m., but did not breathe properly, and after anattack of convulsions died between 3’ and 4. There was no medical man on the boat, but the stewardess did everything she could for th i mother and child. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical testimoi^ r , that death was due to congenital weakness.
