PORT AWANUI.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) We aro having very heavy seas lately and they are doing a lot of damage. Mr. D. Duff’s new breastworks arc hopelessly beaten and new piles, etc., will liavo to be put in. Mr. Boyd’s property, occupied by Messrs. G. Kirk and A. B. Jackson, is going to sea if not removed at once. The sea has eaten half way under the lcticlieii and it is only a matter of another rough sea to take the lot'. Altogether the people of Port Awanui are having an anxious time of it.
Wo are anxiously waiting for the Hatipiri and hope it may bo as fine as to-day for landing cargo—all the stores are short. Skinner’s boats are also expectod. No tenders were put in at last Council meeting for repairing the Waitbtno Crook road which is in a very bad state, which shows great shortage of laborers. Can you tell us why all the land is withdrawn up this country?
