Regarding the price of thread the executive of the Independent' Political Labor League have issued a manifesto, pointing out that a system depending on private enterprise to supply the needs of the community never can be satisfactory to workers. Like the Trades Council, the Executive are of the opinon that' the only remedy is State or municipal control and what members have to consider is how to bring this about. It is pointed out . that during the last. 15 years wages only increased 83 per cent, or Is' 8d in tho pound; during the same period the cost of living has gone up 30 per cent, of 6s in the pound. Regret- is expressed at the apathy of tho workers in not returning the League’s candidate at the last municipal elections, and calling on them to show a more united front next term.
