CORONER’S INQUEST.
An inquest was conducted at the Courthouse on Saturday by tho Coroner Mr. W. A. Barton, touching tho death of Hugh Trimblo, found drowned in the Turanganui RiverTho following jury was empanelled —Messrs. T. It. Mackrell (foreman), T. Tasker, Graham Johnston, \\ . Hay, F. J.-Mackrell, John Third. Sergeant Williams represented the jiolico. . After viewing tho body the evidence was called. . Constable Wales identified Die body as that of Hugh Trimble, formerly employed on tho barqueiuino Frank Guy as cook. He was reported to be missing on. the 13th June. Ai about 9.30 on Saturday morning witness was informed that the body had been founjl gn the Haiti side of the Turanganui River, just at the termination of the wharf. Had the body conveyed to tho Morgue, and a search resulted in finding 9s in silver in the right-hand. trousers, pocket. Deceased had been drinking ever since lie came to Gisborne. On tho 11th witness arrested him for drunkenness. During the time ho was in port he was iu a state of senii-driui-lcenncss. Saw deceased about 11.30 on 12th on board the Frank Guy. He had been bailed out at 7 o'clock that morning. : William John Macpliorson, a carter, deposed that about 9 o’clock some children drew his attention to the fact that something was in the river. Proceeded to tho water, and found the body. The tide was going out, taking the body with ;, it, and witness stopped in and picked it out. Without retiring the jury returned a verdict to the effect that deceased was found drowned in the Turanganui River, but'there was .no evidence to show how he got there.
