SIR JOHN HALL’S FUNEFIAL.
Several flags, including that on the Post Office tower, wore flown flairmast yesterday as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Sir John Hall.
Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, yesterday. About 200 people left Christchurch by special train this morning; to attend the funeral of Sir John Hall at Hororata, representing all classes or the community. Among them were Bishop Julius, the Hon. Wigram, M.L.C., Mr. Justice Chapman, Messrs Lewis and Allen,, M.H.R.s, representing the Opposition, also a large number of clergy of all denominations. The City Council were also represented, besides the Law society, A and P. Association, Chamber ot Commerce, Governors of - Can terbury College, the Ex-Contingenters Association, Ellesmere A. and P. ation, Charitable Aid Board, Salvation Army, Art Society, Yorkshire Society, Selwyn County Councd, Lyttelton and Ashburton Boroughs, and manv others. Handsome floral tributes were forwarded from all quarters, including wreaths from the Government and Premier. The /weather was fine and there was a large gath' ering of settlers at Coalgate. The Government were not officially represented owing to the members of the Ministry not being able to get down -from Wellington, but an appreciative telegram received from Sir _Joseph Ward, expressing regret and sympathv. The body was conveyed to Coalgate in a mortuary van on the special train. The cemetery is four miles from Coalgate.
