MARITIME MISHAPS.
United Press Association—Copyright VALPARAISO, June 25. The Steam Navigation Company’s s.s. Santiago quitted Corral with her engines’ partly disabled in a recent storm. She was wrecked during a heavy squall 50 miles north of Corral. One passenger and one officer were saved. It is feared three passengers and 87 of the crew have perished. One of the Santiago’s boats drifted about for several days before it was dashed to pieces on the rocks. CAPETOWN, June 25. Efforts to reduce the water in the s.s. Everton Grange’s forepeak failed. Part of the cargo is being discharged in order to dry dock the vessel.
SYDNEY, June 26. A sunken vessel, with her mast projecting has been discovered half a mile north of Botany Heads. It is believed to be the Sydney-owned scow Arab, which left port on Sunday for Jervis Bay. All hands are supposed to have been lost. Received June 26, 4.27 p.m. SYDNEY, June, 26. The Arab was commanded by Captain Farrell. She carried four other hands —Sweholm, Shostrom, Chapman, and Meyer. It is uncertain, however, wliother one was not - loft behind in Sydney.
