THE KAURI INDUSTRY

Press Association. AUCKLAND, last night. Statements made by .the Hon. Mr. Millar in Christchurch m reference to anamolies in tho kauri timber trade excited a good deal of comment in local timber circles. Some prominent sawmillere wore interviewed by a Herald representative, and the general opinion was that the Minister had been misinformed. Referring to tin statement that Auckland wholesale firms controlled the kauri .forests, one of tho larger millers stated that wholesale firms did not control the forests, “not by a very long'way, for we cannot get a reasonable quantity of raw material to . keep our mills and machinery going.’ It, was denied that any ring among the kaun timber millers existed, and the Minister was charged with ignoring reliable information supplied to the local trade. As for tho Board of Control, it was considered there was too much mtcrferenco already.
