Tho Hon. Captain Tucker, M.L.C., left for AVellington by tho Talune last night.
A Press Association telegram from iNapicr states that Air. J. Close, for manv years a member of the wellknown firm of Neal and Close, and more recently the principal shareholder of Neal and Close, Ltd., died at his residence on Saturday. Mr. Close, who through ill-health has hot taken an active part in the business tor several years, was one of the most progressive business men Napier has had, and although he never took a personal part in public affairs, ho has always been one of the leading spirits in any step having for its object the advancement of Napier. He has been in business in Napier .for upwards of 40 years. 1
A cablegram from London announces that Major Tuson, of the Alan. Chester Regiment, has been seledtcti as Adjutant-General of the New Zealand forces.
Air. Leslie Bull lias taken charge of “he luparoa post and telegraph office. Colonel Hume, Inspector of Gaols, arrived by tlie Talune from Auckland yesterday, on an official visit.
