Received June 21, 6.58 p.m. SYDNEY, June 21. At the Town Hall the Lord Mayor on behalf of New Zealand residents of Sydney, presented Sir Joseph Ward with a fi.%3 .illuminated address expressatisfaction at his rox>resentation of New Zealand at the Imperial Conference.

Sir Joseph, in replying, indicates] that as a result'of an interview with Mr. Carruthers lie believed that measures would shortly bo taken to bring about closer relations between NewSouth Wales and New Zealand, to their mutual advantage. Influential business men entertained Sir Joseph Ward at a luncheon in the Hotel Australia.

Colonel Burns, of Burns, Pliilp and Co., occupied the chair, supported by Mr. 'Waddell, Chief Secretary, Mr. Merrivale, president of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr. French, manager of the Bank of New South Wales and Mr. Jackson, manager of the Union Steamship Co. Air. Waddell, ip proposing Sir Joseph’s health, congratulated the guest on the attitude ho adopted at the Conference. Hp considered liis efforts were of so jiractical a character that great good must accrue, not merely to New Zealand, but to the Common wealth'. Sir Joseph, who pros rpceivpd with enthusiasm, outlined the work done at the Conference and predicted that excellent results would arise from the interchange of opinions. He congratulated New South Wales on the prosperity it was enjoying and trusted the relationship with New Zealand would shortly be further advanced.
