BARRICADES ERECTED IN NARBONNE. MOVEMENT FOR NEW CONSTITUTION. A “PRETENDER” PRESIDENT.

United Press Association —Copyright PARIS, June 19. Extraordinary scones have occurred in Narbonne. Late last night the tocsin was soundecTrn' tho Town Hall. Pooplo poured into tho streets, and began to erect barricades. M. Ferro til, ox-mayor, whoso urrest was ordered, stopped them, saying, “We want no barricades. I surrender myself to justice. I want no hloodshod.” Ho then summoned thorn to destroy the barricades, and himself set the example! The peoplo oboyod, and the barricades wore removed. There are indications that, committees in tho disaffected ’ departments haso sought to establish a Confederation, with M. Albert as President, hoping to obtain a new constitution. Trains full of troops moved about changing garrisons yesterday, and, removing to a distance troops recruited from among tho southern population. Troops occupy Narbonne. M. Ferroul was arrested without disturbance. Detectives, with a military escort, went to Argellieras to arrest M. Albort and five others. They arrested threo, but failed to find Albert.

Received June 20, 9.25 p.m. PARIS, June 20. There was serious rioting at Narbonno at.night. A crowd, which consisted of a party of peasants, emptied a can of paraffin over the door of a wine manufacturer and attempted to' ignite it, but were repulsed by soldiers stationed in the courtyard. The demonstrators tried to enter through the gardens, and tho troops charged repeatedly. It was an hour and a half before they succeeded in dispersing the rioters. Some of the gendarmes were wounded. Troops at Montpelier scattered a crowd which collected outside the prison cheering Mr. Ferroul. i M. Clemencoau’s latest despatches show that, tranquility in tho south lias been restored.

DEMONSTRATION AGAINST TROOPS. MORE BLOODSHED.

Received June 20, 9.33 p.m. PARIS, June 20. The crowd at Narboune, surrounding M. Ferroul’s carriage, hissed the troops escorting him to the station. Thereupon the infantry fixed bayonets anil the cavalry dispersed the demonstrators. The latter threw stones injuring a Colonel.
