ARBITRATION COURT.

Press Association. DUNEDIN, Tuesday. The Inspector of Awards has filed with the Clerk of Awards for Otago and Southland 54 applications in which Oamaru employers and employes are concerned for enforcement or. the carpenters’ and joiners’ award.

NAPIER, Tuesday. The Arbitration Court* commenced its sittings here to-day, when a number of cases of breaches of awards were dealt with. Fines of £5 each were imposed in a number of instances of breaches of the tailors, carpenters, carters, and bakers’ awards, in paying less wages than; the amounts fixed oy the awards. In a case for employing men on Wellington anniversary day at-less than the holiday rate of wages a fine ot £2 was. imposed, and a similar fine was inflicted where a youth employed to do “light work” as a carter had not been employed solely in such work. For employing two carters in a bakehouse, a baker was fined £3. For failing to pay the award wages to ail employe, the proprietor of the Wairoa Guardian was fined £l, and ordered to pay arrears of wages, amounting to £33 11s Id. ' .

NAPIER, last night. The Arbitration Court sat to-day to hear evidence in connection with, the Flaxmillers, Letterpress Machinists, and Typographical disputes; Further evidence in the, last-mention-ed will be taken to-morrow.
