A departure from tlie customary congratulatory leading artcile on the subject of the appointment of King’s Counsel is made by the New Zealand Herald. While complimenting the new Iv.C.’s themselves on the undoubted honor, the paper considers certain clauses of the regulations re--ardinp- appearances only with juniors and. in the Lcnver Court, for a special fee, as being entirely objectionable. “They must,” it says, “exclude a certain number of the best men in the various centres from a recognition which should be based onlv upon merit and character; and thev must invariably tend to increase tlie cost of law to those who are unfortunate enough to have to resort to it.”
