THREE PERSONS DROWNED

At 12.30 on Sunday morning a partv of eight Maoris left the Croix elies in an oil launch for Nelson ™ attend tho Land Court. The launch was in charge of one of their number, Mohano. After proceeding, about half a mile a leak in the engine was discovered. When a lantorn was tahen to .examine it a lire occurred. Mohano and several others jumped overboard, and though the launch was within three chains from the land, one man,. a woman, and a boy were drowned. The present information does not give the names.
DARGAVILLE. -esterday. The launch Lily ran into the bows of the steamer Bardona. The occupants, three men and a boy, were thrown out. Tho men were rescued by ropos, hut the boy was nearly drowned. A sailor named Sydnoy Rowan jumped in and held him up till a boat came.
