THE CAPTAIN 9 DEATH
SOME SURVIVORS AT KAWHIA
Press Association. AUCKLAND, Saturday. The It a raw a arrived at Oiioluinga this morning with nine survivors of the Kia Ora wreck. Nothing definite was obtainable as to the actual lumber drowned. Tho second steward says there were on board 19 ofFeors and crow, l'i adult passengers and three ohddien. Tho children and the whole of the ship’s company, except Cap tain Blacklock, were saved. With 27 saved and three known to ho drowned, there, are several adult passengers still unaccounted for. One of the crew -.aid ho heard Captain Blacklock cull out for a boat to come to him. This was about a quarter of an hour alter the wreck. Captain Blacklock was then swimming. He had evidently abandoned his lifebelt in an effort to reach the b* at. Ho was not seen later. \ telegram from Kawhia, uinioci noon, states that tluee survivors. Piatt-, Barraclough and Henderson, have just arrived there in a sorry plight. With the exception ot these , and nine men taken aboard the Barn wa the survivors are still on tlio beach. :
OFFER OF HELP REFUSED. DUN ED IN, Saturday. In answer to an offer of assistance to the passengers and crew ot _ the Kia Ora, the secretary of the bmp-y.-nok Society has been advised oj the Mavor of Now Plymouth that the agents of tho shipping company are. providing the necessary immediate aid.
