CONCERT’ IN GISBORNE.

On Thursday" next To’ Rangi Pai (Mrs. Howie) will give a. concort in Mis Majesty’s Theatre. She will bo assisted by tho Club orchestra, Mrs. .1. C. Collins, Misses Augusta Homing and Bonar-Miller and Messrs.!. Teat, Dalry.mplo and Griffiths. The accompaniments aro to bo played by Mrs. Hooper and Mr. Ernest Chrisp. Mrs. Howie lias now a wide reputation as a contralto vocalist of the first order, and it is interesting to read the opinions of those boyond tlio cclcnv regarding her. The London Musical Courier says“ The qualifications that make for the success ol a singer vary with the individuality and one’s 'impression upon first hearing an artist is usually a saio criterion ns to tho relative position they are likely to attain. Thus, the exceptionally favorable feeling created by Jo Rangi Pai at her first concort in Queen’s Hall makes it reasonable to believe she will win distinction by her truly artistic work. Her charm of personality makes her rich contralto voice all the more attractive. The Anglo-American Press remarks: “The low notes of her voice have a peculiar richness.” Regarding the general quality of Mr. Howie’s voice the Lady savs: “To Rangi Pai has a beautiful rich, sympathetic voice ui.spoiled by the metallic timber that s’) ofton mars that of an Eastern v.calist.”
