LOCAL CELEBRATIONS.

In connection with the above event a lantern and musical eiitertaiiimeirtr was held last evening in Holy Trinity .Schoolroom. In spite of the most unpleasant weather there was a fair at-

tendance. The Rev. .11. Williams spoke on a number of fine slides Unit were put through tho lantern b- tho Rev. 11. N. Wright. The lecturer, in a very happy strain, told the story of tile Chinch—her great men and deeds. Alany fine views of historic spots wore shown. The lecture was most warmly receiv'd!.• Owing to the weather most of those who promised to assist in tho musical part of the programme failed to nut in an aj)pearanee.. Amongst those who assisted were the Rev. H. N. Wright and Aliss Sussex. ~ The evening closed with the singing of the National Anthem. Tho Jubilee Festival will come to a climax to-morrow with great choral sorvicos, the list of which is published in another column. Tho Rev. F. W. Chattel-ton will occupy the "iiljiit at the church at 11 a.m., and the Vicar ■it 7 p.iu. Airs. Howie is to sing a beautiful sacred item, specially 'brought by her from England, at the evening sorvice.

At 2.45 p.'m. there is to he a great children's festival in the church. The Vicar will conduct tho service. Each ,*ounperson is asked to regard tomorrow as “Brick Sunday”—that is, the;]* are asked to place, say, threepence in flic offertory, the amount to >c added to tho building fund. Tho church authorities are appealing to-morrow for a jubilee golden offering for the work of extending Trinity Church. The matter is arous-, ing groat interest i n the district, and vuccess seems assured. The authorities appeal to all residents to assist as they are able. The amount of the ■ffertorv will lie announced at the close of tho evening. Jubilee services will also bo bold at Naiti and Alangapaxut schools at 7 p.in. Tho Rev. F. AV. Chatterton will officiate at the former and the Rev. 11. Wright at the latter X'lace. hihiloe offerings for church work in both places will be taken at those

services. At Kaiti there will lie a united young people’s service at 2.45 Xs.ni.

There was a special service at St. Raul’s Cathedral to-night, all the

local clergy being present. A sermon u.jJaining the significance of the condilution was given by ’tlie Primate. Bishop Nevill.' There was a large attendance. The sermon concluded with the words, “Young men and maidens, old men and children, this is the special message to each and all mi this celebration of our jubilee ; be thankful for vvliat has been done for von, for in Christ we also are builder! together into a habitation of God and the Spirit.”
