RABBIT ENCROACHMENT.
.DENIAL FROM AVAIROA. Press Association. AVAIROA, yesterday. At a meeting of tho AVairoa District. A. and P. Socioty last niglit, a letter was. read from the Gisborno Farmers’ Union, urging that the Government he askod to erect a rab-bit-proof foneo to stop the spread of rabbits. It was stated authoritatively there was no ground for tho statement that the southern portion of AVairoa district was infected with rabbits. Tho report of the chief stock inspector, assistant stock inspector, and rabbit inspector showed that rabbits woro 25 miles further back than they woro twolvo months ago. and there was no necessity now even for four miles of rabbit-proof fence along the south side of the Moliaka river. The allegations at the; recent meeting at Gisborne were ridiculed. Mr. H. Cnrlyon. owner of Maungntauiwhn, one of tho properties in tho district alleged to he infected, stated he had put tho matter in the hands of his solicitors, with a view to legal proceedings against, tho president of tho Gisborno Farmers’ Union. A motion was carried that a reply bo sent that from tho reports of both-rabbit and stock inspectors, the statements made regarding rabbits being north of tho Moliaka river aro without foundation.
