PERSONAL.

Mr. Ngata, M.H.R., will arrive in Gisborne this afternoon on a few days’ visit. Mr. G. E. Darton has been seriously unwell and could not go to Napier for the meeting of the Education Board.

Mr. W. A. Gray, Union Steamship Co. J s audit inspector, is at-present on an official visit- to the Gisborne branch. He leaves for south by the Miowera this evening.

Mr, W. G. Riddell, S.M., who lias been appointed a second magistrate for Wellington, was welcomed by a large number of the legal profession yesterday. Speeches were made by Mr. Hadfield, President of the Law Society, and Dr. McArthur. Mr. W. F. lies, manager of the local branch of tlio Westport Coal Coy., is at present away on a holiday to Dunedin, and is being relieved by Mr. Hamilton, the company’s inspector. The Hon. Jas. Carroll will arrive in Gisborne by this morning’s boat. During the day 110 will receive a deputation of Natives, concerned in

East Coast trust lands, as to appointing a successor to the late Mr. J. A. Harding. A Press Association cablegram from Fremantle states that- the Wards are all well. The Acting-Premier and the Aide-de-Camp of the Governor boarded the Mooltan and extended a welcome to the party. They are guests of the Governor during tlieii stay.

The new manager of the Gisborne branch of the Union Co., Mr. J. W. J. Preston, arrives by the Tarawera till: morning and assumes control from Mr. T. A. Itevell, who has been acting" in charge since Mr. W. G. Fiaser left., Mr. Itevell leaves by till Miowera this evening for AVellington, en route to his station, Blenheim. During bis short stay here, Mr. Itevell lias made himself very popular and secured many friends, and his departure will be regretted.
