A LONG PASSAGE

The barquehtine Frank Guy, which; arrived yesterday, had very long passages both to and from Newcastle. On the outward voyage, leaving Gisborne on 12th April, head winds were encountered, ancl Captain Ware liiing about for five days trying to pass East Capo. This, however, proved impossible, and he turned round and wont for Cook Strait, and passed Stevens Island on 28th April at 6 a.m. Splendid weather and beautiful S.E. winds wore met with across Tasman Soa, and the passage) from. Stevens Island was inado in nine days, reaching Newcastlo on May Bth.

The harq'ueutinc left Newcastle on May 17tli, with light N.E. winds for two days, thence strong Westerly. She passed North Cape on 20th, and sighted East Capo two days lutor, 30 miles olf, tho wind being S.W. Then the southerly gale was encountered, and for two days the vessel hovo-to. Light variable winds were then met with, and East Cape was passed on 4th June, and got within 12 miles of port last Thursday, and then a strong southerly wind sprang tip. The vessel had to stand off under small canvas till the following day. Tlienco light variable winds were met till yesterday, when a steady N.E. breeze sprang up, and anchorage was fetched at 3 p.m., and the vessel berthed at the wharf at 6 p.m. A quick passage of nine days took place to North Cape, and East Capo was sighted on the eleventh day.
