It is rumored that Sir W. Lyne will be offered the High Commissionersliip of the Commonwealth in London.

The Hon. Georgo Fowlds left Auckland by train yestorday for Helensvillo to open tho new baths, and will be the guest of the Domain {Board. On Tuesday morning Mr. Fowlds will bo in attendance at tlie Ministers’ room, and in tho evening will deliver an address to his constituents at Grey Lynn. It is probable that Mr Fowlds will leave for Welington on Wednesday. . . A gloom was cast over tlie district by the news of tlie death of a highlyrespected settler in the-' person of Alexander McKenzie, the well-known proprietor of “Seaforth,” Ormond. Mr. McKenzie had" been ailing for about three months, and passed away at a quarter to 3 on Monday moi njn,r He leaves a widow and four sons and six daughters to mourn their loss. The funeral takes place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, leaving the family’s residence for tlie Ormond Cemetery. At the Harbor Board meeting yesterday, Mr. Clark, on belialf of the 'Board, extended a welcome to Mr. Harris, the newly-appointed member. Mr. Harris said lie- wished to heartily thank members for tlie words of welcome spoken. He was net very experienced in tlie working of local bodies, but would do his best to cooperate with tlie chairman and members for the welfare of the port. (Applause.)
