DIAMOND MERCHANT MURDERED.
A MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR. United Press Association— Copyright MELBOURNE, Juno 8. Barnett Bauer, a well-known diamond merchant, was discovered in “ ls r office in the Modern Chambers Co - lins-st reefs last evening with skull fractured in several place*, and died on removal to the hosp Though there were no signs o 8. struggle, he had evidently been brutally murdered. The affair is a complete mystery. A friend who saw Bauer ton minutes before the body was discovered found the door of the office locked. No one in the building heard any suspicious sounds.

Received Juno 9, 4.59 p.m. MELBOURNE, June 9. Evidently robbery was the motive of the murder o:. : Bauer. Ho was in the habit of carrying a bag containing thousands of pounds worth of precious stones and pearls, and depositing them in the bank overnight. Tbm bag is missing.
