HOTEL LICENSEE IN TROUBLE.
A STRONG ALLEGATION. Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, yesterday. At Lyttelton yesterday the police opposed tlic renewal of a license to R J. Henry, of the Mitvo Hotel, the charge against him being that while in a protracted period of drunkenness he grossly insulted his barmaid, using filthy language. The barmaid’s story was that he used the filthiest possible language to her in the bar, and followed her up to her bedroom, and finally put her out on the street, she being sheltered for the night in another hotel. The defence was a general denial, but the licensee had no recollection of what took place on the .night the barmaid was put out. The elected members of the Licensing Committee decided on a renewal of the license. The Chairman, Mr. Bishop, S.M„ made the fol■lowing significant remarks with regard to t’ho application *. “R. J* Henry, for renewal of license of the Mitie Hotel. The elected members of the Committee have decided to renew the license without any remarks. I do not identify myself with that decision in any way.” i
