At about 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon the following letter was delivered to the local manager of tho Union S.S. The Tua'toa left at 8 o’clock for tho scono of tho mishap. She arrived alongside at 9.10 and took tho Squall in tow, berthing at tho town wharf at a qunrtor to twolve. When soon by a Times ropresontativo Captain Benton described tho occurrence and stated that the Tyser Co.’s Niwnru ignored her signals until the Squall’s boat passed at 4.30. Ho could not understand this as tho Niwnru was in sight of Gisborne and they were - not, They wanted a tug, but no notice was taken ot tbeir oppeal. Tho Squall worked Tolaga Bay yesterday morning and left about midday, meeting with the accident shortly afterwards. It is anticipated that the rod can be replaced and tlie vessel be got ready for departure as usual this evening.
