NEW YORK, May 30. Merchants, manufacturers, and property owners at San Francisco have formed a committee of 75 to endeavor to remedy tho existing conditions and chech the forces of disorder, lest business confidence should bo lost.

NEW YORK, May 30. Tho grand jury at San Francisco found true bills in eighty-nine charges of bribery. Those indicted include Schmitz, Ruef, Patrik Calhoun, president of the United Railways, San Francisco, John Ford, Wm. Abbott Coy (a lawyer), Glass (president of the Pacific States Telephones), and Halsey (a former agent of the Telephone Company). Bail fixed at • £2OOO on each indictment was allowed.
THE JAPANESE QUESTION PROTECTION WANTED.
NEW YORK, May 30.
A statement issued by the Japan Association of San, Francisco demands special police protection to prevent further trouble and possibly bloodshed. It emphasises that' the violence shown is largely the result of racial prejudices, hooligans insulting and attacking Japanese, while sparing others.
