THE KAISER AT THE THEATRE
The visit of Mr. Beerbolim Tree, the celebrated London actor, and liis company to Berlin, and the keen interest shown in it by the German Emperor, is another proof of his partiality for things theatrical, and so strongly marked is his liking for the stage that lie has often been known to snatch a moment to attend rehearsals at the Court_ Theatre, and he occasionally tolls the actors and actresses his idea of the reading of their roles. The Emperor has written several plays in conjunction with Colonel Lauf, under whoso name they have been produced, and lie also wrote a new libretto for Weber’s opera of “Oboron.” Whon the Emperor visits tlio theatre ho is followed by a closed light van, which contains a portable stovo on which a quantity of dishes can be kept warm. A table is generally set in the room off tho Royal box, and in tlie intervals of the play his Majesty onjoys a hearty supper. This supper does not, however, satisfy the Emperor’s appetite, for he never retires for the night without having a cold bird, a bottle of beer, and some rolls placed by his bedside, and it is whispered that very little of the bird remains hv tho morning.
