Tho petroleum works at Motliroa uro at an interesting stage. The last of tho machinery required for cleaning No. 1 bore lias arrived from Sydnoy. Not only is No. 2 bore down about the oil stratum, hut-No. 3 is also expected to strike petroleum very shortly. This bore is now do\v n to the depth reached by Mr. Samuel’s Company, 1976 ft. Fragments of a brass pump and tow packing that formed part- of devices used to keep the water out of the boro have >betm brought to the surface by tho drill. It was said tho borers were likely to meet with an impassable obstruction near tho bottom of this bore, but it now appears that the obstructions, if there, have been passed. No word has yet been received from Mr. Simpson, the Taranaki Petroleum Company’s boring expert, t,wlio was expected to arrive in Auckland yesterday from Canada.
