PORT AWANUI
(From our own Correspondent.) Coast traders and passengers per Haupiri will regret to hear of Captain Campbell’s suspension, owing to getting his steamer on a mud-bank iit the Spit, Napier, about a- month ago. Much sympathy is expressed, and I see tlie Tokamaru Buy correspondent mentions they intend making Captain Campbell a presentation for his attention, carefulness, etc., in landing cargo there. I hope the Tokamaru correspondent will communicate with other coast townships, when we will all join in making the presentation, giving something handsome, and show our sympathy in a practical form. We all hope for his speedy restoration of command of the Haupiri, more particularly the lady passengers, who have unbounded confidence that everything will be safe if Captain Campbell is in the boat. Trade on tlie coast seems generally on tlie increase, and a lot of bush is coming down this season. The roads are in a frightful state everywhere.
Mr. A. T. Ngata goes north per Haupiri to meet the Chief Justice in the Waikato.
Several sections tip To Araroa have changed hands lately at good prices, and there are further inquiries for all sorts of sheep property. Why does tlie Government not take the Matahiia property for close settlement? There arc tliosnands of acres of beautiful farm lands which would cut up into 200 to 500 si ere farms'. .
