TE ARAROA NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) May 24th. There is not much else to report m this district but rain and mud) 'and it is quite a business to. got about anywhere, the roads are so bad. The road between Te Araroa and Awanui is alinoso impassable. The rainfall for April was 24.56 inches on 23 days, the heaviest fall being 5.95 inches on the 7th. There have been several Hoods in tho rivers. There is quite a change taking place in Te Araroa, which is something new for the district, two stations having changed hands. Mr. Campbell has sold his lviritalii property to Mr. K. S. Williams and left tho district; and Mr. Beckett has taken over Mr. A. J. Cameron’s Mautotara Station.

The last of 3 the season’s wool has boon shipped at last. Tho Haupiri stood by for a day on her last trip South and managed to got it all away. Tho Waiapu also got a full load of timber olf and took it to Gisborne, and is back for another consignment. (During the last month a fine mob of fat bullocks, 100 head, were sent to Gisborne from Messrs. DeLautour and DeLautour’s and Mr. Cameron’s stations, and in spite of tho bad roads, arrived in good condition. A large mob of sheep from different stations has also been sent, and it was quite a contract getting them away, as they simply kept getting bogged :in the roads, and had to' be swum across the Waiapu River when it was 'in fairly high flood. Fortunately it was negotiated without loss, but it is high time this river was bridged, as it is very treacherous and of late has :beon always.more or less in flood. Winter being with us again, with its long evenings, it brings with it the ;never-failing pleasant pastime danc;ing, and ono of the most successful •and enjoyable dances held in this district for some tifnc was given one evening lately by Mr. Henderson, who left nothing ulidone to give his ! guests a real good time, which they thoroughly appreciated. Among those jpresent were Mesdames Downey, Heald, Hansen, Hawkins, McLachlan and Watson ; Misses Downey (3), Hansen (2), and Neilson ; and Messrs. Downey (2), Heald, Hansen, Hawkins, Hamilton, Elliott, Liddell, McLclilan (2), and Watson.
