YOUNG WOMAN’S NOSE BITTEN
DISAPPOINTED LOVER’S ACT.
Press Association. DUNEDIN, yesterday. Thomas Macltay, aged 25, on Saturday night bit off a portion of the nose of Eliza Mary Hall, aged 21. Accused was at one time engaged to Miss Hall, who resides with her father and sisters in Honover street. Some months ago the couple went to Melbourne, which is Maekay’s birthplace, to be married. The lady changed hor mind and returned to Dunedin on Saturday, Mackay accompanying hor. In the afternoon they were walking along Castle street in company with Miss Hall’s sister, Frances, who was a short distance in advance by herself. On Frances looking round she noticed the other pair stopping. Miss Hall began to scream, and cried out, “My nose is bitten.” The suffering girl was taken to the hospital where the doctors reported that the injury would cause permanent disfigurement. In tho evening Mackay went to Hall’s house, when he appeared to be very penitent, and went the length of requesting that Hall should kill him. He is further reported to have taken up a weapon with the object of killing himself. He was placed under arrest.
Mackay, charged, with nose-biting, was remanded till Juno 4.
