The annual balance-sheet of the Public Service Stores Co-operative Company shows a loss for the year of, £950. The last holf-year showed a loss double that of the first half. The position is attributed to lack of support by a large proportion of the shareholders, who objected to cash payments, and the committee proposo to amend the articles of association to permit of monthly credit. '

The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner,, dated London. May 25th: The mutton, market is steady, with a better demand. Canterbury is quoted at 4d,, North Island at 3£d. The lamb mar- / ket-is firm and there has been no change in prices. The beef market is firm owing to reduced supplies. Hindquarters are quoted at 3|d, forequarters at 3id. The butter market is dull, only fine quality being iu demand. Choicest New Zealand is at 995, Danish 105 s, Siberian 90s. The cheese market is steady, wtih no' change in prices. The hemp market is quiet with small business doing. Reports from Manila indicate there is a disposition to sell on distant delitery. Some holders of New Zealand hemp are forcing sales. Good fair grade on spot is in small supply, and is quoted at £34. Fair grade on spot is at £29 10s. Fair grade, May to July shipments, £29. Fair current Manila on spot £36 10s. There lias been no alteration in the cocksfoot seed market.
