PRETORIA, May 24.
Tile- Rand strikers attacked and stoned the police at the Ferreira Deep mine and intimidated the workers into joining the strike. There were violent scenes also at' the Robinson Deep mine. Four hundred of the Cameron Highlanders are now distributed in the East, and 200 of the Border Regiment, in the West Rand.
Poor Dutch are gradually replacing the strikers on the Rand. Eiigino<l rivers and other mechanics continiio to work. The strike is delaying development work rather than crushing.
MILITARY DISPERSE RIOTERS. Received May 26, 4.54 p.ih. PRETORIA, May 25. The Rand strikers, disregarding an order forbidding assembly 'in groups of six or more within 3oj) yards of the mines, marched across'to the Croesus mine. The police kept them off until a squadron of Queenla Bays arrived. The crowd refused to disperse, whereupon au immediate order was given to charge. This surprised the strikers, who fled.
