JEWEL THIEVES CAPTURED.

STRANGE PREDICAMENT OF TWO LADIES.

Two men named A. Prtaston Green and Charles P. Rorer were arrested on the arrival at New York 'March 17th of the steamship Amorika, and jowellery valued at £4OOO stolen on February 26th from Tiffany’s Jewellery Stores, at London, was (ivcovered.

As the amount recovered is less than the amount stolen, it is supposed that the men disposed of part of the plunder in London. On March 13th Police-Commissioner Bingham received a cable asking him to look out for the arrival of Green and Rorer and to co-operate with the Customs authorities. The men were searched, and the jewellery found upon them. Arrangements are being made for their extradition. The danger of shipboard acquaintances is curiously illustrated by the case. Green and Rorer met a Mrs Dealtry, of New York, and a Mrs Wilson, of Japan, on the Amerika. The ship’s officers pointed the women out to the detectives as companions of the two “crooks,” iand fthe detectives took the women to headquarters, saying that it was necessary to search them. Mr. Dealtry arrived at the dock to meet wife, and was amazed at her predicament. Ho accompanied the two women to headquarters, where explanations were made, and the women were released. Green and Rorer are both ex-con-victs.
