SOUTH SEAS CYCLONES.

TWO HUNDRED LIVES LOST.

INUNDATION BY TIDAL WAVES

Press Association—Copyright. SYDNEY, May 22.

Advice has been received that a tornado on April 30 caused widespread damage in the Solomon Islands. Oleai was devastated. The death roll is estimated at 200, and it is expected to be increased when the details come in from the outlying islands. A cutter has arrived at New Britain, seeking assistance. The Government are sending a despatch vessel. Details are meagre.

The storm was at the Caroline Islands, not the Solomons. It burst without warning, carrying everything before it. The natives were swept to sea. Tidal waves inundated the coastal villages.
