Major Paul, a lady officer of tl Salvnt'.i.u Army, has been elected a member e.f tho Christchurch Charitable Aid Board, vice Mrs. Henderson, deceased.

Messrs. Murray, (late manager c Messrs. L. D. Nathan and Co.’s Gisborne branch) and Crompton arrives in Gisborne yesterday to make ar rangements for commencing business as warehousemen. A Press Association telegram frou "Wellington states that the Post ss; that the leading authority in military circles in Wellington says it is certair that a mistake has been made in eoi: npotion with the cablegram from Sir Joseph Ward announcing the selor tion of a British army officer for flic position of Adjutant-Genoral in Ner Zealand. The messago states that Major Inson has been selected. There is no such name on tho Army List and the Post’s informant inclines to. the belief that tho officer chosen ir Major E. S. G. Anson, who served in the South African war and was present at several notable engagements during that campaign, including the relief of Ladysmith and tho operations at Colenso, Spion Ivop, Vaal, Krantz, Tugela- Heights and Laing’s Nek. For his services during tlicwar he received tho Queen’s Medal '< with four clasps and the King’s Medal with two clasps. After a short visit to Auckland Hr. Cole returned to Gisborne yesterday.
