The strike at Cobar has thrown idle over 2000 men and a plant valued at five million pounds) It is feared the mines will become flooded, and serious damage will result to the machinery unless hands are obtainable to man the pumping machinery. The management are firmly determined to resist the strikers’ demand.

SITTINGS OF THE COURT. WELLINGTON, yesterday. The Arbitration Court will sit in the following places after it finishes its Wellington sittings:—Palmerston North June 4th, Wanganui June 12, Napier Juno 18. Sittings at Masterton and Dannevirke have yet to he fixed. BUTCHERS’ FRIENDS. CHRISTCHURCH, yesterday. The slaughtermen recently out on strike will entertain Messrs. Davey and Witty, M.H.R.’s, in recognition of their services as. mediators in &he dispute.
