A DIVORCE CASE.
CHARGE OF ADULTERY THROWN OTJT. At the Supreme Court? yesterday, before Mr. Justice Denniston, Edward Parnell (Mr. Stock) petitioned for divorce against his wife, Edith Marion Parnell, on the ground of desertion and adultery. Mr. F. W. Nolan appeared for the co-respondent. Petitioner stated that he lived six or seven years with his wife after marriage. She left him about August, 1900. Witness followed her to Hawera, and asked her to return several times. She would not, and witness returned to Gisborne. Wrote to her and received a reply declining his terms. She had left Hawera and he heard of her in Tasmania in June last year. Between this time had heard nothing of her. Arthur Parnell, brother of petitioner, identified the letter-card received from his brother’s wifo from Hawera. Petitioner had been living in the same house in Gisborne for about four years. His Honor remarked that the evidence was very vague. Petitioner (re-called), said he saw li : .s wife in co-respondent’s arms in the kitchen and dining room. Accused her of being on too intimate terms, but did not accuse her of adultery. His Honor said there was sufficient evidence of desertion. There was no proof of adultery, and the case against co-respondent would be dismissed. A decree nisi, to be made absolute in threo months, was granted.
