INVERCARGILL, last night,
Tho adjourned case against Margaret McCauliffo, proprietress of tho Shamrock boarding-houso, charged with unlawfully selling liquor on April Ist, was begun this afternoon and concluded to-night. Mr. Solomon, of Dunedin, appeared for the defendant.
, Evidonco was given by two witnesses, Hollman and Lawson, who previously absconded, and were brought back undor arrest, as to tho sale of whisky to them and another person on the dato stated. Undor cross-examination witnesses stated that while thoy wore in the cells awaiting tho lioaring of another charge preferred against them thoy told the polico of tho salo of liquor to them on April Ist, and wero asked by tho police to visit the Shamrock and invito the accused to sell them liquor again. Thoy accordingly visitod tho house, but could only purchase soft drinks. Two other wit- I nessos and accused denied tho sale. Defendant admitted that she had boon convictod in August, 1905, of the unlawful sale of liquor, but said I she was not guilty. Docision was reserved. I
