MR. ANDREW MACK.
The interest of Gisborne playgoers is likely to be awakened by the announceriient of the approaching advent of Mr. Andrew Mack and his own complete company under the management of Mr. J. C. Williamson. The season woll commence on Monday, May 27th, with a presentation of the new Irish drama, “Tom Moore.”
Since Dion Boucicault gave Irish dramas such wide and overwhelming popularity in this country, an important evolution has taken place in wliat may be termed the old-fashion-ed stage Irishman and. the whole tone and atmosphere of this class of entertainment, so that to the older generation of playgoers Mr. Mack’s productions will form a subject for much interesting comparison, and the younger generation will bo afforded the privilege of witnessing really adequate representations of Irish drama for the first time.
The second production of the season will be a play of no less interest which has won unlimited popularity throughout America, and two years ago in Australia. During Mr Mack’s recent Auckland season the enthusiasm with which “The Way toi Kenmare” was received was almost without precedent. The third and farewell appearance of the company will be in a delightful Irish romance by Ramsay Morris, entitled “Jack Shannon,” said to be a story of ‘ dainty sweetness, exhilarating, and refreshing, which also contains some charming ballads composed by Mr. Mack!' The box plans will be opened at Mr Miller’s on Thursday morning it 9 o’clock.
