ANTI-SUICIDE LEAGUE.
SOME STRIKING STATISTICS. Lieut-.-Colonel Unsworth, in his report to the War Cry on the operations of the Anti-Suicide Bureau recently opened in Sydney, during the two months of its existence, states that it has proved only too successful. It lias demonstrated how largo a number of unfortunates contemplate suicide as the only means of getting rid of their sorrows. During the two months six hundred cases were dealt with either by interview or by letters, and the Colonel states that a condition of suffering has been revealed such as perhaps the most pessimistic of the community never suspected. The cases dealt with are classified by the officer in
clinrgo of the Bureau as follows: Tlio lonely class, 50 ; of money troubles, 350; qf prsons criminally invoiced, 50; victims of the morphia and drug habit, 80 casos. In the second category are a number of sorious cases of embezzlement. The offondors wore induced to make confession, and as far as possiblo restitution, with, usually, tlio happiest results. Tlio Bureau in future will oporato on tlio Continent and In Amorica and Australia.
