Tho Auckland "Women’s Political League have resolved to bring under the notice of the Government the abnormal, number of cases of assaults on women and children recenlty l eforo the Supremo Court, and to draw attention to the remarks made by the Magistrate regarding perjury in such cases.
The following passage is from a report presented to a. recent meeting of the Canterbury. Employers’ Association:—“The Government appear to have done all that could be expected to be done to enforce the law against the strikers, but the trouble with the latter has clearly demonstrated that the Arbitration Act cannot prevent strikes; tlio Act can only provide penalties for striking. The future development of the Act will be watched with keen interest. A number of amendments are proposed by the Government, doubtless with the object of making the Act work more smoothly, but these will have to be jealously watched by the Employers’ Associations, lest the interest of tho employers arc not- properly safeguarded.’’ ,
