SERIOUS WRECK.
Press Association. —Copyright. PARIS, May 9. -The French steamer Poittof, from Marseilles to Buenos Ayres, was wrecked at Cape Santa Maria in a gale. The passengers were chiefly Spanish emigrants. Many became panic-stricken, and tried to swim ashore. Fifteen were drowned. Two hundred were saved. Nearly a hundred women were battened down below at the moment of the disaster. The work of rescue is proceeding.
