The dreaded potato blight is reported to have made its appearance in several of the crops in this district (says the Ivaikoura Sun). In one case a farmer on starting to dig his potatoes found them perfectly sound, but they were left for a week while some other work was attended to, and when started on again were found to be rotten with the blight. He was the cotter’s only child, They called him little Jim, And Death with scythe and hourglass had Called round to wait on him; The mother wept, the father sobbed, For death looked very sure, But Little Jim’s still in the swim Through Woods’ Great Peppermint Cure.
